Our History
The Henne Group (THG) was founded in 1986 by Jeff Henne. Over the years, we have grown from a one-man show housed in a small office sublet from Mother Jones Magazine to a 35+ person firm headquartered in downtown San Francisco. In 2005, we expanded and established a data collection center and focus group facility in Greybull, WY. This facility is the only focus group facility in the state of Wyoming and one of the most rural facilities in the United States.
Today, The Henne Group (THG) offers a full range of market research services, bringing exceptional competencies in all aspects of custom research and contact center support.
About Jeff Henne
Jeff is the CEO and President of The Henne Group, a San Francisco-based consulting group offering a wide range of market research services to clients from the public and private sectors. He has published 36 articles in peer-reviewed journals. He received his B.A. and M.A. in Political Science from Rutgers University.
Our Values
Simply put, THG’s mission is to do good work. Our core values are quality, transparency, attention to detail, and empathy and respect for our respondents. Our research often focuses on issues related to public health, the LGBTQ+ experience, social justice, and social responsibility. We got our start pioneering the use of research to guide behavior change communications in the early days of the HIV epidemic. Much of this work helped shape HIV prevention campaigns at the local, state, and national levels and laid the foundation for the services and expertise that we provide today.
To bolster our recruitment services, we have developed an in-house panel, which now includes over 12,000 members representing population segments such as LGBTQ+ adults, patients with rare conditions, medical professionals, and small business owners.
Affliations and Certifications

THG employs a robust, enterprise-grade data security framework that integrates both on-premises network infrastructure and Microsoft's Business-level licensed online solutions to ensure comprehensive protection of sensitive information.
On Premises: Security Overview
THG leverages a HITRUST and ISO27001-certified QTS Colocation Data Center in Sacramento, CA. This secure on-premises facility maintains THG's hardware and network under stringent security protocols, featuring biometric-monitored entry and resources protected by a fortified network boundary. The infrastructure operates on a NIST 800-53 compliant framework governed by a Fortinet firewall, with real-time monitoring via RAPID 7's threat management SIEM, complemented by Sentinel One Antivirus and Fortinet’s Multi-Factor Authentication VPN. The RAPID 7 SIEM solution collects data from both THG's on-premises servers and the Microsoft 365 environment, with automated alerts dispatched to staff.
THG utilizes Microsoft's Business-level licensed online products, including TEAMS, OneDrive, and SharePoint for online data storage and collaboration. When storing information in Microsoft's 365 environment through SharePoint, Microsoft implements a multi-layered encryption approach that protects data at rest and in transit.
Online: Security Overview
Data at Rest
Azure Storage Service Encryption (SSE): Microsoft implements 256-bit AES encryption through Azure Storage Service Encryption for all data stored in SharePoint Online, rendering files and documents unreadable without the appropriate decryption keys.
BitLocker Drive Encryption: Microsoft employs BitLocker to encrypt the physical disks in data centers where SharePoint data resides, providing an additional security layer against physical compromise.
Per-File Encryption: SharePoint Online utilizes a granular security approach with unique encryption keys for each file. Every file update generates a new encryption key using AES-256 standards, ensuring that a potential compromise of one file would not expose other data.
Key Management
Secure Key Storage: Encryption keys are stored in physically separate, highly secure key stores. This separation ensures that even if someone gained access to the data storage location, they could not decrypt the information without the corresponding keys.
Data in Transit
HTTPS with TLS 1.2: All communications between client applications or browsers and SharePoint Online servers are secured using HTTPS with TLS 1.2 protocols, preventing eavesdropping and maintaining data integrity during transmission across networks.
